“Songs of Praise: The Church's Canticles”

Canticles have been a great fountainhead of Christian doctrine and practice since the days of the early Church. 

Our study of these texts will take us through the ages, from their antecedents in the Old Testament to their extraordinary musical settings of the past 300 years. 

Together we will consider how these sacred songs inspire worship, deepen faith, and connect us to the timeless praise of God’s people across generations.

John Mange is currently a doctoral student at the University of Michigan where he studies conducting, assists with the athletic band program and directs the Campus Maize Band. He has also been an adjunct instructor at Concordia University Ann Arbor. 

Formerly he was organist and choir director at Lutheran Church of the Cross (Hanover, MA) and Director of Fine Arts for the Stoughton Public Schools (Stoughton, MA), where he taught for 12 years. John and his wife, Cassia, are members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, and have three children - Everleigh (6), Winthrop (4), and Audrey (2).
